Fashion model, branding specialist, and influencer Blake Kinne chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about representing Connecticut in the 2026 Mister USA competition.

Legendary western actor John Wayne once said: “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It’s perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we’ve learned something from yesterday.” This quote applies to Blake Kinne, 29.

Background on Mister USA

Mister USA is an American beauty pageant, which is held annually, and the winner goes on to represent the United States in the Mister Universe competition. It is a celebration of culture, diversity, beauty, intelligence and empowerment.

It believes in the power of young leaders to make a difference in the world. It is not solely about outer beauty; it recognizes the inner beauty and intelligence of their contestants.

The 2026 Mister USA finals will be held at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, from July 18th to the 25th. The winner will go on to represent the United States in the upcoming Mister Universe competition.

Representing the ‘Constitution State’ Connecticut

On repping his home state of Connecticut in the 2026 Mister USA competition, he remarked, “It honestly feels incredible… being able to have this opportunity to be an inspiration to others and focus on my creative endeavors in a way that can give back to influence people to lean into their authenticity.”

“It is such a cool feeling, and I am very excited,” he added.

Daily motivations

Regarding his daily motivations, he shared, “I am motivated by my family and friends… I love being a family man.”

“I love waking up and being creative and making art to express myself… I just appreciate being in this competition,” he added.

Ties to Connecticut

On his Connecticut roots, he stated, “I was born and raised in Connecticut. I moved all over the state and I have lived there my whole life. I love the proximity to New York City, but I also love that my state affords me the privileged opportunity to be immersed in nature.”

“I went to school at the University of Hartford for Visual Communication Design, and that’s when I got into the advertising world.  I was then recruited to the branding agency I was with for a long time (eight years),” he elaborated.

“Then, last year, I actually started my own independent branding practice, 11B Studio, and it has been quite a journey. For all these reasons, I love Connecticut,” he noted.

Career defining moments

When asked about his career-defining moments, Blake said, “In my design role, when I was appointed to associate creative director, that’s when I realized that I could trust my own design decisions enough to do this on my own someday, and I started working towards it.”

“In my modeling role, it was when I was invited to shoot in Kefalonia, Greece, and I was able to be published internationally, and I could see my momentum picking up.

Plans for the future

Regarding his plans for the future, he foreshadowed, “I am definitely working on creative projects right now, one that has been in the works for some time. I am not quite ready to divulge it yet, but it will be announced soon.”

Blake Kinne — Founder of 11B Studio

Blake went on to discuss serving as the founder of 11B Studio, his branding practice. It’s really rewarding being able to help people actualize their creative dreams, and turn them tangible. I primarily work with luxury brands in New York and Miami, and focus in brand identity development and brand extensions.”

Advocacy for Mister USA

On his advocacy work, he stated, “I think that there are a lot of wonderful people giving voices to really important topics.”

“One thing I feel is not talked about enough is child and human trafficking and I am actively getting involved with local organizations to use my platform as Mister Connecticut to raise awareness on this ever-increasing global issue, which is timely and relevant,” he explained.

“I also want to advocate for small farms and regenerative agriculture. “I think that’s very important to supportive our local ecosystems and people deserve access to fresh, affordable regenerative foods,” he elaborated.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Blake revealed, “Embracing the Unknown.”

“This whole last year has been very transformative for me,” he admitted. “I was very comfortable at my old agency and I mastered my routines, and I knew that I needed to challenge myself to try something new, so starting this branding practice was very scary but it allowed me to welcome so many new opportunities including being Mister Connecticut, for example,” he elaborated.

Blake Kinne on why he should win the 2026 Mister USA title

When asked why he should win Mister USA, he responded, “I would be a great candidate to win because I want to show people how important it is to tap into their authentic selves and embrace their vulnerable side and self-reflect, in an effort to really discover themselves.”

“Growing up, I had always wished that there were more male role models that I could have looked up to, outside of my immediate family… men that have showed their emotional and vulnerable side, and that’s what I want to encourage others to do. I want to be a positive influence for the youth,” he elaborated.

“I think that’s what the competition is all about, and that’s the type of person that should win,” he added.

Superpower of choice

If he were to have any superpower, it would be “universal empathy.” “I feel I am a good listener, and I’ve been told that I’m the therapist of my friend group,” he said with a sweet laugh.

Success

Regarding his definition of the word success, Blake said, “Success is so much more than material or financial status. To me, it is waking up happy every day and having people in your life that love you and that you love in return.”

“Also, being content with what you are creating or making… knowing that whatever it is that you are doing is influencing others for the best possible outcome. That’s more important than any measurable thing,” he added.

Fans and followers

For his fans and followers, Blake expressed, “Thank you to everybody who believed in me and has stood in my corner. Thank you to the Mister USA organization for giving me this platform where I can express myself the way that I do.”

“The support that I have received from people thus far has been incredible, and it really fulfills me,” he noted.

Closing thoughts on Mister USA

Blake remarked, “I really want people to be able to see me holistically… my goofy side, my soft side, my vulnerable side, and everything in between. I would love people to see the inner parts of me that make me unique. It is such an honor to be in this position, and I want to make the most of it.”

American track and field running legend Steve Prefontaine once said: “To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift.” Blake Kinne embodies this wise quote. His life story is an inspiration to us all.
