James Paxton (the son of the late but great Bill Paxton) soars in the new western film “Last Train to Fortune,” which was directed by Adam Rifkin. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.
Follows Cecil Peachtree (Malcolm McDowell), a schoolteacher, and Jedidiah Dooley (James Paxton), an outlaw, as they strike a deal and develop an odd friendship along the road to Fortune after having to deal with gunfights, jailbreaks and saloon gals on the way. Our mismatched heroes form an uncommon bond.
Malcom McDowell commands each scene he is in as the schoolmaster Cecil, while James Paxton is a force of nature as Jedidiah Dooley. Multi-Tony winner Bernadette Peters dazzles as Miss Lily while Laura Marano is equally appealing and impressive as Amanda. Mary Steenburgen delivers as Miss Maybelle.
The screenplay by Michele Rifkin is rich in character development, and it fulfills the ensemble cardinal rule for a western.
It was expertly directed by Adam Rifkin, who should be commended for his vision in bringing this raw and unflinching story to life.

Overall, “Last Train to Fortune” is a thrilling and entertaining new western movie that is worth more than just a passing glance.
