Nicole Mattox and Seth Edeen soar in the new vertical drama “Step by Step” for Super Punchy Studios. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.
The founder of Super Punchy Studios is screenwriter and director Salvador Paskowitz (who co-wrote “The Age of Adaline”), who did an exceptional job directing “Step by Step.”
“Step by Step” follows the story of Piper and Parker, two people whose lives unexpectedly intertwine when their families come together, turning them into step-siblings. What starts as an unfamiliar and complicated situation gradually unfolds into something deeper as they navigate their new family dynamic.
Living under one roof forces them to confront not only their differences, but also their own personal struggles, past wounds, and the emotions they try to suppress. As their bond grows, so does the tension-especially when feelings begin to blur the lines of what’s acceptable and what isn’t.
Caught between love, loyalty, and family expectations, Piper and Parker must face difficult choices that will challenge their understanding of relationships, identity, and what it truly means to love someone.
Vertical queen Nicole Mattox commands each scene she is in as Piper, and Seth Edeen is suave as Parker. This is one of Edeen’s better and more promising acting roles and performances thus far. They have some really poignant scenes together, which tug at the heartstrings.
Haley Lohrli is memorable as Holly while Molly Anderson is a hoot as the vixen Lily.
Jon Briddell and Nicole Dionne are remarkable as Parker’s father Xavier and Piper’s mother Joyce respectively.
The Verdict
Overall, this riveting new vertical does a solid job exploring family dynamics and such sophisticated themes as healing, acceptance, and the complex natures of families. There is something in it for everyone. Without giving anything away, its cliffhanger ending will leave viewers yearning for more. “Step by Step” garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Hopefully, this is a harbinger for more great things to come from Super Punch Studios in the future.
