Spice Girls ‘split’ and ‘cancel all future tour plans’

The Spice Girls only got back together in 2019 to go on a 13-date sold-out tour throughout the UK. The legendary pop band – made up of Mel B, Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Horner (Née Halliwell) – thrilled fans by getting back together for the first time in years. Although they were missing Victoria Beckham, things were looking up before Covid hit. A new report says the band’s plans to continue their reunion have now been scrapped.

An insider has revealed: “It was going brilliant – but Covid killed the momentum. Now it’s done again. There’s nothing on the agenda and they’re focusing on their own things.” (Via The Sun)

Geri and Mel B were reportedly the “driving force” behind the group’s massive reunion tour in 2019, which resulted in sold-out gigs in Wembley Stadium. What’s more, following their gigs, the girl gang were due to voice superhero characters in an animated film, which was going to “reignite the Girl Power movement”.

Unfortunately, the report claims this film has also been cancelled, along with all “upcoming tour plans”.

The insider continued to add that Covid was the sole reason for the Spice Girls’ second (or was it third?) split. They said: “The girls loved being back on stage and it reinvigorated their love for performing. But a few years of lockdown and everyone’s back has turned on the group in favour of other projects.”

They added that the band are looking to work on some solo projects in the meantime.

The girl band played to more than 700,000 fans over 13 days, selling out every tour date. They also reportedly made more than £80 million through ticket sales.

The cancellation follows Mel C announcing that the band all “passionately” wanted to get back on stage.

Last year she told OK! Magazine the band were “constantly talking about” singing live together again. She said: “Well, I tell you something, there will be if I’ve got anything to do with it. We’re constantly talking about it. The girls have had meetings and it’s something we all passionately want to do.” She added: “We’re working through the ins and outs of Covid to try to make it happen.”
