Emmy award-winning actress Mishael Morgan (“The Young and The Restless”) chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about starring in the Hallmark rom-com “Pumpkin Regatta Romance.”
It premieres on Saturday, September 26 at 8 p.m. EST on Hallmark Channel and it streams the next day on Hallmark+.
The synopsis is: When their fathers refuse to move past a disagreement, Nadine (Mishael Morgan), daughter of the boat shop owner, and Ethan (Corey Sevier), a pumpkin farmer, team up to heal the feud and revive the town’s Pumpkin Regatta.
“This movie was so much fun,” she admitted. “We got to eat a lot of food on set. I got to eat like fries and milkshakes, which I did not know was an amazing combination. I loved that my character, Nadine, is a hometown girl.”
“I’ve never played a hometown girl before,” she noted. “So, I got to just be nice, sweet and optimistic. I was living my best life in my small town. I loved it. It was amazing.”
Working with Corey Sevier
On working with Corey Sevier as her leading man, she said with a sweet laugh, “Working with Corey was very difficult.”
“No, we hit it off right away. Corey is so incredible,” she clarified. “Corey is an amazing actor. I’ve been watching his work forever. As soon as I met Corey, I felt like I was really in a Hallmark movie.”
Lessons learned from the screenplay
On the lessons learned from this screenplay, Morgan said, “I think it’s a reminder of the importance of family and community. I think it taught me that everything you want or you might be chasing might be right at home. That’s what Nadine taught me for sure. I have one foot in Los Angeles and one foot back in Toronto.”
“Coming back to Toronto to film this has been such a wonderful experience,” she admitted. “Just watching my kids really embrace Toronto and the Toronto experience was great, especially realizing just how different these two cities are. Sometimes, you feel like Toronto could be little America.”
“When I was younger, I was chasing so many different things and I just realized that home is really where the heart is. There is so much that you can appreciate in your own hometown. The food in the film was great too. Never forget about the food in your hometown,” she added.
Stage of her life
On the title of the current chapter of her life, she said with a sweet laugh, “Surrender.” “Surrender to the chaos, surrender to the changes, and just surrender to everything,” she said. “There is so much beauty in the surrender.”
‘Sway’
Morgan also recalled her experience in the film “Sway,” where she worked opposite Emmanuel Kabongo. “That was an amazing experience and a really fun one, but very different from this Hallmark movie,” she said.
Success
Regarding her definition of the word success, Morgan said, “For me, I think success is being able to do what you love to do every day. Just finding a way to do what you love to do every day. I think if you are lucky enough to do that, then you are successful in life.”
“Also, having family, community and a support system is a success,” she added.
Message for her fans
For the fans, she remarked about “Pumpkin Regatta Romance,” “Being home and being reminded that so much of what you are seeking in life, sometimes can be right here in your own hometown. So just appreciate where you came from and all of the blessings that it can still offer you.”
“I brings it brings the fans lots of fun, laughter, and joy,” she concluded.
