After more than a year’s worth of shameless self-promotion and winking boasts that seemed like nothing more than a way to keep two of the world’s best-known fighters squarely in the 24-hour news cycle, the fight is finally, actually going to happen.
The formerly-retired, undefeated five-division champion boxer and unrepentant domestic abuser, Floyd Mayweather, will enter the ring and take on the only combat sports pro in the world who can match him for strutting, braggadocio and profligate spending, mixed martial artist and current UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, in Las Vegas on August 26 at T-Mobile Arena.
Who will win is not for certain, but one things they are going to make a lot of money and we will pay dearly for it.
