Mary Vysnevska, Ukrainian Vertical Star, chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about being a part of the digital space.
Vertical Drama Space
On being an actress in the vertical drama space, Mary said, “The vertical space allows you to actually get jobs. These days, finding a job as an actor can be difficult. There are times that you find jobs, and sometimes you don’t. The vertical world is developing so fast, and it proposes so many opportunities that you basically get more jobs, which is awesome.”
“The second thing about the verticals is that it gives you such a great variety of roles,” she said. “You can be a vampire today, a princess, an alpha male, a female janitor, a maid, a billionaire, or whatever. It basically gives you such a diversity, and that’s interesting.”
“The third part of the vertical world is that it gives you international access,” she noted. “I had two verticals for ReelShort, ‘Lover at Dangerous Speeds’ and ‘The Fighter Who Stole My Pulse’. They did incredibly well. Once they were released, I got so, so many followers and people would watch from all over the world, which is something I didn’t even expect.”
“Now, I have many followers from America and from Europe. I am trying to get into some international projects. So, there are casting directors from international projects that are interested in me now,” she acknowledged.
“So, being in verticals, even here in Ukraine, gives you such a great expenditure to be considered for a great variety of projects all around the world,” she observed.
“Now, you don’t only have to be in Ukrainian projects, but you can also be considered for projects in Europe and USA, which is great, and it can bring your career to a global level. So, those are the three main things,” she elaborated.

It’s very humbling and an honor to be considered one of Ukraine’s top female vertical actresses.
Ukrainian verticals are pretty big right now, and being in projects for Ukrainian vertical companies is already pretty cool . It can really bring your career up and you can get global recognition, and you can get to the top just working with the best players in the market.
It gives you good status and it gives you a lot of opportunities, especially if you participate in those projects
Working with Bohdan Ruban and Nazar Grabar
Mary had great words about working with Bohdan Ruban and Nazar and all of her other co-stars (male and female). “Honestly, all my male and female partners in verticals are the best. I work mainly with AMO actors who are all amazing people,” she said.
“Working with Bohdan was a lot of fun and incredible. He was so supportive and he was there to balance work and fun. Nazar is also amazing! They both allow me to be in the moment and they are very supportive,” she explained.
Message for fans
For her fans, she expressed, “Watch our verticals and support us. The more you watch your content, the more content will be produced, the more jobs will be created and that will create more stories.”
“What I’ve noticed with Ukrainian actors is that they put a lot of heart and soul in their projects. There is a lot of soul in them. We put a lot of energy and love into our work. I hope the fans notice those little things,” she elaborated.
“The more you guys support Ukrainians right now, the more great work we can do, and the more hope we can have in our lives,” she concluded.
