“Sheepdog” deserves to be a contender at the 2026 Academy Awards. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the recap.

It stars Academy Award nominee Virginia Madsen (“Sideways”), Emmy nominee Vondie Curtis Hall (“The Recruit”), Tony nominee Lilli Cooper (Broadway’s “Tootsie”), SAG Nominee Dominic Fumusa (“Dexter”), Matt Dallas (“Kyle XY”), and Steven Grayhm (“The Five People You Meet In Heaven”) as combat veteran Calvin Cole.

Not only does this powerful film raise awareness on veterans with PTSD but it will hit the audience like a shot in the heart. It deserves to be seen by everyone, and it should be played in every movie theater.

Steven Gyahm and Vondie Curtis Hall command every scene they are, and the ensemble cast of actors that includes a transformative Matt Dallas and an amazing Virginia Madsen as the trauma therapist helps elevate it to a higher level. Dominic Fumusa is impressive as Clarence O’Riordan and Lilli Cooper also knocks her moving, gutwrenching scene out of the ballpark.

“Sheepdog” should be nominated in every Academy Award category that it is eligible for. Its message is too huge to be ignored, and the storytelling in itself is just gripping and captivating.

Most importantly, it will get viewers and fans talking about all these important issues pertaining to veterans and their mental health. Bravo!
