Will hairdressers reopen in Tier 3?
On December 3, England’s month-long lockdown will end and the country will enter an amended, tougher version of the tier system used prior to lockdown. Thousands of businesses are desperate to reopen their doors after a month of lockdown, in one of the most crucial trading periods of the year.
Hairdressers have been forced to close their doors twice now in England since the coronavirus pandemic took grip back in March.
Hairdressers were first allowed to reopen on July 4 with a variety of new restrictions in place, such as social distancing and the use of face masks and shields.
They were closed as part of lockdown restrictions on November 5, alongside other non-essential businesses as the Government moved to fight the second wave.
But with the second lockdown nearly finished, the UK Government has outlined it wants to exit the national strategy and return to a localized tier system – but with harsher restrictions for the worst affected areas.
“People want to get their nails done before Christmas – it’s a huge season for these businesses.”
The Government has not yet outlined officially if hairdressers will open, and the Prime Minister is expected to announce the new rules in a press conference at 7pm, November 23.
More areas are expected to enter the higher end of the system, and restrictions in each of the areas are expected to be altered.
Under the previous system, local leaders were to help determine whether venues such as gyms or casinos should be closed in very high alert level areas, and this may change in the new system.
Ministers announced on Thursday which tier each area will enter.
