The Union JACK Radio poll was held to mark the launch of Disney Plus series Get Back. The radio station also held a Beatles-focussed talk show that is available to stream now.

The show is hosted by “Beatlemaniac” Geoff Lloyd, who said: “Hey Jude is one of The Beatles most adored hits, so it’s not at all surprising that Union JACK Radio’s listeners placed it in the top spot. “The song started life as Hey Jules – written by Paul McCartney to comfort John Lennon’s son, Julian, during his parents’ divorce … It provides a soundtrack to key events in modern British life, such as the London Olympics Opening Ceremony and The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Concert.”

McCartney added: “I thought, as a friend of the family, I would motor out to Weybridge and tell them that everything was all right, to try and cheer them up, basically, and see how they were. I had about an hour’s drive. I would always turn the radio off and try and make up songs, just in case.

”It was optimistic, a hopeful message for Julian: ‘Come on, man, your parents got divorced. I know you’re not happy, but you’ll be OK.’”

He added: “I eventually changed ‘Jules’ to ‘Jude’. One of the characters in Oklahoma is called Jud, and I like the name.”

Lennon felt the track had a different meaning, however.

Lennon told David Sheff: “I always heard it as a song to me. If you think about it, Yoko’s just come into the picture. He’s saying: ‘Hey Jude – hey John.'

”I know I’m sounding like one of those fans who reads things into it, but you can hear it as a song to me. The words ‘go out and get her’ – subconsciously he was saying, go ahead, leave me. On a conscious level, he didn’t want me to go ahead. The angel in him was saying: ‘Bless you.’ The devil in him didn’t like it at all because he didn’t want to lose his partner.”

Hey Jude was released in 1968 and reached number one in 21 countries. By 1999 the track had sold more than eight million copies worldwide.

Listen to Geoff Lloyd’s Get Back online at unionjack.co.uk.

SOURCE

https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/the-beatles-paul-mccartney-hey-jude-the-story-behind-the-song/

Fri, 10 Dec 2021 00:01:00 +0000 Callum Crumlish

PS5 stock UK: GAME, Amazon and BT PlayStation 5 restocks next up – dates and times https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/gaming/1534518/PS5-stock-UK-GAME-Amazon-BT-PlayStation-5-restocks-next-dates-times

This week saw the PlayStation 5 become available to buy at retailers such as Argos, Very, Currys and the PlayStation Direct UK store. And if you missed any of these restocks then don’t worry, you should have another opportunity to purchase the PS5 before Christmas at GAME, <a data-link-tracking=”InArticle|Link” href=”https://www.amazon.co.uk/PlayStation-9395003-5-Console/dp/B08H95Y452?keywords=ps5+console&qid=1639164813&sr=8-1&linkCode=ll1&tag=express2002-21&linkId=1a20ac8b23f67d0107a9483b626819e0&language=en_GB&ref_=as_li_ss_tl” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow” onclick=”ExpressApp.GoogleAnalytics.TrackEvent(‘Affiliate NetworkEvent’, ‘Amazon’)”>Amazon and <a data-link-tracking=”InArticle|Link” href=”https://go.skimresources.com?id=76202X1587086&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fshop.bt.com%2Fproducts%2Fsony-playstation-5-console-cfi-1016a-G02R.html%3Freferrerid%3DZA00%26utm_source%3Dawin%26utm_medium%3Daffiliates%26utm_content%3DZA00%26awc%3D3043_1633344452_15618f46b86aaf657ae5c35ee6dd30f2″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow” onclick=”ExpressApp.GoogleAnalytics.TrackEvent(‘Affiliate NetworkEvent’, ‘Skimlinks’)”>BT.

The BT restock has already been confirmed, with the PlayStation 5 available to buy for BT Broadband customers that have already signed up to <a data-link-tracking=”InArticle|Link” href=”https://go.skimresources.com/?id=76202X1587086&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fshop.bt.com%2Fproducts%2Fsony-playstation-5-console-cfi-1016a-G02R.html%3Freferrerid%3DZA00%26utm_source%3Dawin%26utm_medium%3Daffiliates%26utm_content%3DZA00%26awc%3D3043_1633344452_15618f46b86aaf657ae5c35ee6dd30f2″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow” onclick=”ExpressApp.GoogleAnalytics.TrackEvent(‘Affiliate NetworkEvent’, ‘Skimlinks’)”>register their interest in the PS5.

The next BT PS5 restock will be going live on Monday December 13 between 9am and 11am UK time.

Alternatively, if you’re not a BT customer then Amazon is tipped to be dropping more PS5 stock next week.

This is according to the ever reliable @PS5StockAlertUK Twitter account. It had been thought Amazon would be releasing more PS5 stock on Wednesday December 8 between 8am and 9am UK time.

Instead, that potential restock window came and went without any more PlayStation 5 consoles becoming available to buy at Amazon UK.

It now looks like the PS5 could become available at Amazon UK once again on Wednesday December 15, with a restock happening during the same time slot.

The good news is the last Amazon UK PS5 restock was the online retailer’s biggest stock drop ever, so we could see a hefty amount of Disc and Digital consoles available to buy once again.

But it is important to note that Amazon Prime customers get priority access for PS5 restocks, so be in with a chance of bagging an order from Amazon you really need to be a Prime member.

Earlier this week the PS5 Stock UK Twitter account posted: “Looks like Amazon UK drop should be taking place next week Wednesday (8-9am).

”Their last drop was 17/11 which was their biggest drop ever, therefore a drop was expected today. Seems that the drop drought is slowly beginning.”

Elsewhere, GAME could also be dropping more PS5 stock next week, with standalone consoles as well as bundles set to be available.

GAME, like Amazon UK, had also been expected to release more PS5 stock this week – with a rumoured restock predicted for December 9 or 10.

These dates came and went without without and stock becoming available to buy though. The GAME website lists its next lot of PSS stock as having a release date of Monday December 20.

So that indicates the next PS5 GAME restock could go live the week beginning Monday December 13. It’s unclear, at the time of writing, what date GAME could open orders for the PS5 once again.

But GAME PS5 restocks typically go live between 9am and 11am UK time, so watch out for restocks around that time next week.

Fri, 10 Dec 2021 19:42:23 +0000 Dion Dassanayake

Clifford the Big Red Dog REVIEW: Yet another ET rip-off with cheap animations https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/1534450/clifford-big-red-dog-review

A scramble for seats is unlikely. Still, pet-loving tots should lap up this big-hearted adventure based on Norman Bridwell’s children’s books. Clifford is an alarmingly red and unusually big puppy sent to teach a bullied girl and her feckless uncle the power of love.

Twelve-year-old Emily Elizabeth Howard (Darby Camp) is branded “Food Stamp” when she lands a scholarship to a fancy school frequented by spoilt rich kids. The misfit faces another challenge when she is left in the care of her unemployed man-child Uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) while her single mum Maggie (Sienna Guillory) leaves town on business.

Whitehall, affecting a grating American accent, starts off his babysitting stint with a trip to an animal shelter run by a mysterious Englishman called Mr Bridwell (John Cleese). There, Emily falls in love with a tiny, bright red, cheaply animated CGI golden retriever pup.

”How big is he gonna get?” she asks. “That depends… on how much you love him,” responds Mr Bridwell, cryptically. It turns out that Emily loves him a great deal. Within hours of sneaking him into her cramped apartment, the pooch has grown to the size of an elephant.

When footage of Clifford goes viral, evil biotech boss Zac Tieran (Tony Hale) tries to capture the mutt to harvest its growthspurting DNA. As parents are confronted with yet another E.T. rip-off, kids are hit with pratfalls, along with lessons about the importance of kindness.

Fri, 10 Dec 2021 17:08:41 +0000 en
