Paddy McGuinness and A Question of Sport team captains Ugo Monye and Sam Quek were back on Friday for another episode of intense sporting quizzing. Sam took on Ugo with a team made up of women’s rugby pro Shaunagh Brown and motorbike racer-turned-rockstar James Toseland. However, diehard fans of the BBC quiz show were rather surprised to see Ugo’s team consisted of Coronation Street batboy Will Mellor alongside swimming legend, Rebecca Adlington.

So much so, that frustrations from the A Question of Sport fanbase emerged even before the episode aired.

Reacting to a teaser clip shared by the BBC show’s Twitter page, many were quick to weigh in with their thought of having an actor take part.

Twitter @juniper_guy poked fun at the casting choice: “Next week’s guests are Christopher Biggins and Ainsley Harriet.”

While @jamieparkie firmly vented: “Mellor should not be on, not a sportsman!!”

Other celebrities to have starred include The Chase’s Shaun Wallace and rapper Big Zuu.

While Will may not have a sport to fall back on, he still managed to impress with his backlog of sporting knowledge.

However, it wasn’t enough to secure Ugo’s team glory as Sam and her teammates romped home to a 17-8 victory.

Will is arguably best known for his role in BBC sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps but last year saw him step into soapland.
