The Rumba is perhaps one of the hardest routines the celebrities can tackle on Strictly Come Dancing. Dan Walker will be performing to Desperado by The Eagles with professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova and will be hoping to impress both judges and viewers with his efforts. However, ahead of the live show, Shirley Ballas issued a warning to the BBC Breakfast star regarding his technique.

Shirley joined Claudia Winkleman on her BBC Radio 2 show alongside former Strictly champion Harry Judd to discuss the upcoming routines.

Harry commented: “The Rumba is so hard. Like Shirley said, with the Argentine Tango, you can be very on the beat.

“But with the Latin ones you have to play with the music slightly. Rumba and Samba for me were the hardest.”

Claudia remarked: “You mentioned the Rumba, Dan said very early on in the competition, and by the way he thought he was going to be there for two weeks, he said to Nadiya his dance partner, ‘If we ever did the Rumba, can we do it to this?’

“Here’s the song and it’s fantastic.”

The presenter played a clip of Desperado by The Eagles before adding: “I mean, it’s just moving, it’s The Eagles.

“A Rumba, slow, arms down, hand cupping face. Difficult to do? I’ve watched some of their training on It Takes Two, Shirley you are the Queen of Rumba, everyone who takes part in Strictly just watches you doing the Rumba on YouTube. Do you think they can pull this off?”

Shirley replied: “I do. I’ve got a really strange feeling he can.

“The rhythm and listening to the music, it’s tough but you know, if anyone can pull it off, it will be Dan Walker,” Shirley concluded.

Unfortunately for Dan, he is currently the bookies favourite to be eliminated from the competition next.

He is the odds-on favourite to be eliminated at odds of 5/6.

Meanwhile, Rose Ayling-Ellis could be set to secure Giovanni Pernice his first win as her odds of being champion are cut again to 1/5.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Punters have been backing Rose in their swarms since pretty much day one, and with her odds of winning the Glitterball Trophy at record lows, it looks like she’s on course for another perfect score this weekend.”
