The Blacklist season 9: Cooper’s blackmail culprit ‘exposed’ as fans spot Agnes clue?

NBC’s hit crime series The Blacklist may be on a mid-season break but that didn’t stop fans trying to work out one of the biggest mysteries of season nine. As well as finding out Raymond Reddington’s (played by James Spader) real identity, viewers are convinced they know who could be blackmailing Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix).

When season nine debuted on screens in October, it returned with an all-new major mystery which involved the beloved Harold.

Despite the fact, he went out his way to get the task force back together, he found himself becoming the victim of blackmailing.

It began in episode four when Harold woke up in his garage with no recollection from the night before and later discovered his neighbour Doug Koster was found dead.

Doug once had an affair with Harold’s wife Charlene (Valerie Pettiford) and to make matters worse, a round of bullets were missing from Harold’s gun.

Harold soon realised he was being set up when he later learned he had been drugged on the fateful night.

His friend Lew Sloan (Danny Mastrogiorgio) had tampered with the report which linked Harold to the murder and had been received blackmail since.

In the most recent episode titled ‘Boukman Baptiste,’ Harold was able to hunt down the bartender who drugged him, however, he discovered him dead in his home.

With a slew of confusion and questions left unanswered, The Blacklist fans took to Reddit to share a theory about who the culprit could be.

Viewers were first introduced to Scottie in season three and during her time on screen, she was there to console Liz after her husband Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) was killed.

Although Tom was also her son they were both at different stages of grieving because Liz had been in a coma for 10 months before she found out.

For this reason, it could be likely Scottie was trying to get Harold sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit, so she could get custody of her granddaughter.

However, she could have potentially enlisted Matias Salmon (Edi Gathegi), an ex CIA agent who was disavowed for horrific war crimes.

User PCBH89 agreed with the theory and wrote: “I really wish they’d explained a bit better about Cooper getting custody in the first place.

“It doesn’t make sense with Agnes having a grandmother who’s probably not much older than Cooper,” they continued.

Patriotraitor suggested: “Panabaker? Only seems fitting because he’s the one constantly in touch with her.”

While Asucurelife argued: “My gut still says the Wife or someone his Wife is tied to and she’s in trouble.”

The Blacklist season 9 returns to NBC on Friday, February 25
