He explained: “Big-hearted Emma has found herself in a massive pickle, one which will ultimately cause her to wave goodbye to the cobbles.”
Speaking about her contribution to the show, Ian likened the star to “pure Corrie Gold” who graced screens with “sunny, silly sweetness”.
In an interview with Metro, the producer also wished his leading actor all the best for her future endeavours.
Iain added: “I wish Alexandra all the best in the next chapter of her career.”
Coronation Street currently airs Mondays, Wednesdays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm and Fridays at 7:30pm for an hour on ITV.
