Just hours before tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing finale, Prime Minister Boris Johnson had addressed the nation to reveal much of the South East and London would be moved into Tier 4 restrictions following a rise in coronavirus cases. As a result, new guidelines are being put in place from midnight tonight which will restrict travel and prevent household mixing ahead of Christmas Day. And while HRVY and Janette Manrara’s opening performance had the judges talking, Craig couldn’t resist a swipe at the news.
HRVY and Janette had just finished their Jive to open the Strictly finale when Tess Daly turned to the judges for their thoughts.
“It was amazing,” said Shirley Ballas while Motsi Mabuse echoed her thoughts that it was one of the best routines the show “has ever seen”.
When it got to Craig, however, he took a swipe at the current news dominating headlines.
“Well, in light of the recent news darling, I’ve decided I’m going to be positive,” he told Tess.
Despite stating he was going to remain positive throughout the evening. HRVY and Janette still only received a score of nine from Craig.
Motsi and Shirley gave him a score of 10 apiece, meaning he head into his second of three dances this evening with a score of 29.
Craig’s initial dig at the news came after the Prime Minister revealed the new restrictions imposed on Tier 4 areas.
Speaking during a coronavirus daily briefing earlier today, Mr Johnson said: “I know how disappointing this will be,
“But we have said throughout this pandemic that we must and we will be guided by the science.
“When the science changes, we must change our response.
“When the virus changes its methods of attack we must change our method of defence and as your Prime Minister, I sincerely believe there is no alternative open to me.”
