Last year, it was revealed that Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary would be taking over from and on their This Morning Friday slot. At the time, ITV also confirmed that the couple would still cover for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield during key holidays. However, some viewers were left unimpressed on Monday when they turned on their TV screens only to see Dermot and Alison presenting the show.

Last week, in a This Morning promotion clip, ITV confirmed that Dermot and Alison would be presenting the show during half-term. However, viewers were still not happy by the sudden change.

Taking to Twitter one viewer quizzed: “I thought we were supposed to have Eamonn & Ruth presenting this week… We want Eamonn and Ruth!”

Another raged: “Where are Ruth and Eamonn on this morning thought they were covering holidays? If been sacked it’s disgusting.”

A third tweeted: “We don’t want them on our TVs. We want Eamonn and Ruth, for the sole reason, they know how to present a TV show.”

Since being replaced as hosts for Fridays, Eamonn and Ruth have made a number of reappearances on This Morning.

The pair hosted their final Friday show shortly before Christmas last year.

Updating his followers on Instagram at the time, Eamonn penned: “Hi everyone, just want to say something to you all from the bottom of my heart and that is thank you.

“Ruth and I have been overwhelmed yesterday and today by the amount of messages and we’ll be replying via social media, by emails, by texts, by Whatsapp, by whatever way we can.

“But can I just generally say thank you, thank you, thank you. We do feel the love, really appreciate it but stop it, stop it now.”

Eamonn went on to say: “It’s Christmas time, Mistletoe and Wine.

“We’ve all got things to do so thank you, get on with your lives, we certainly intend to get on with ours and look, things are looking up.”

A spokesperson confirmed to Express.co.uk in a statement: “Alison and Dermot were always due to present [the show].

“Eamonn and Ruth will be presenting over the summer.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.”
