“I walked in and found him about to break into the till; I was scared. All of a sudden, he wasn’t the Ben I knew.
“So I ran, but he followed me outside. I stumbled, he grabbed me and put his hands around my throat, I was losing consciousness.
“I had just enough strength to get to my feet and grab the closest thing to hand, and I hit him with the oar. I don’t know how many times,” she said.
“I just wanted to make him stop. Then I ran, I never looked back. When I heard they found a corpse, I was in shock, I thought I just knocked him out. I was traumatised, terrified.”
