Piers Morgan, 55, was the first of two celebrities who took part in the festive special of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Host Jeremy Clarkson, 60, welcomed him to the stage and took swipes at the Good Morning Britain star as the pair joked about their rivalry. The journalist was playing for his chosen charity and he was hoping to win a good amount of cash to donate, though the ITV quiz show presenter humiliated the broadcaster when he said he wouldn’t scoop £1million.

Introducing the journalist, the host said made a jibe about Piers, saying: “The next contestant is someone with whom I have had a few disagreements over the years.

“Come on, it’s Christmas so let’s put all that behind us and play nicely as we welcome the simply awful human being, Piers Morgan,” he joked.

When the player then entered the studio, Jeremy told his guest: “I’m just reading what it said on the autocue.

“It did not say that on the autocue,” the broadcaster hit back as he laughed nervously to which the quizmaster replied: “It did say that on the autocue.

“You should have seen what I wrote, it was way worse,” the former Top Gear star remarked before going on to inform viewers of who the player was.

Refereeing to his job, the game show master said: “You’re a daytime television host,” but his colleague disagreed.

“I’m a breakfast TV star, yes,” the journalist declared as he tried to put the former Top Gear star in his place.

“Um, daytime,” the host replied, then going on to inform the broadcaster of how proceedings were going to play out.

“I need to talk you through the rules because you’re usually in bed when this show is on,” the quiz show presenter said.

The quiz show presenter asked the journalist: “Which of these world champion racing drivers has not been a teammate of Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1?”

There were four options for Piers to chose from, which included Kimi Räikkönen, Nico Rosberg, Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button.

Unsure as to the correct answer and having used his lifelines, the broadcaster went for the latter as he made a complete guess.

Unfortunately, Kimi Räikkönen was the correct answer and this meant the Good Morning Britain star had to leave the table.

Before he did, Jeremy told the outspoken journalist: “You’ve humiliated yourself. And you’ve cost yourself £15,000.

“But actually very nobly, credit where credit is due, you’re going to make up the difference. I’m trying to think of a positive.

“You did make it to £4,000 all on your own, then everybody else helped you the rest of the way. You were brave to come on and I was brave to have you.

“We’ve embodied the Christmas spirit,” the host continued before showing Piers the way out of the studio.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is available to stream on the ITV Hub.
