Sharing their own views on the subject, Jeremy Vine fans agreed with the notion of slimming down the monarchy.
One wrote: “Harry said he wanted to stop the cycle of pain when it came to being part of the royal family so why would they inflict a title on his son and that would have the connotation of pain. So no to a title.”
“Charles is right to want to slim it down – there’s too many ‘hangers on’. It’s his business and his gift to give. I don’t think it’s right that a family who don’t want to be royals, have titles though regardless of any slimming down,” another argued.
While a third said: “Yes! In reality they will never ascend to the throne, so why do they need to be titled and a drain on the public purse, They should be free to pursue a worthwhile career and future for their selves.”
“I’m with Prince Charles. There’s far too many now living of the public purse. Plus Archie lives in USA so therefore not a necessary protocol,” someone else added.
“Who cares? Charles can do what he wants whether its spiteful or not,” a fourth tweeted.
Jeremy Vines airs on weekdays on Channel 5 at 9.15am.
