On Saturday night’s Strictly Come Dancing, Rose Ayling-Ellis and John Whaite battled it out in the final in the hopes of lifting the Glitterball Trophy. Both couples received praise from the judges for their stunning routines, but only one was crowned the winner. At the end of the programme, Claudia Winkleman confirmed that Rose and Giovanni had beaten John and Johannes in the BBC competition.
Reacting to their win, Giovanni said: “Incredible. I have to say thank you to this beautiful young lady who made all my dreams come true.
“It took me seven years to get that thing and you became the best dancer, the best teammate I could have asked for, you are a dream so thank you for everything.”
Turning to her dance partner, Rose said: “I just want to say you’re so amazing, you pushed me to believe in myself more than I believed in myself.
“You’re an incredible teacher and a wonderful friend and we have gone through a lot, and I just want you to know you’ve always got a piece of my heart.”
“Brilliant finalists, and an incredible group dance with Rose & Giovanni the very well deserved winners,” Philip said.
“Huge love to John & Johannes.” (sic)
Courtney commented: “So glad Rose and Giovanni won they deserved it!!”
Karl added: “John and Johannes were so genuinely thrilled for Rose and Giovanni. Wonderful to see. They are two top blokes.”
AJ Odudu and her dance partner Kai Widdrington were also meant to compete in the final, however, the pair had to pull out due to the TV presenter’s leg injury.
Speaking to Claudia ahead of the results, a tearful AJ said: “I don’t know how to describe what it feels like to have a broken heart.
“But that is what it feels like. But we have had the best time on this show.
“I have been putting on a brave face and Kai has been putting on a brave face tonight. But we wanted to be on the dance floor.”
Strictly Come Dancing is available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.
