Star Wars came to a gripping conclusion in 2019 with the arrival of Episode IX, The Rise of Skywalker. After five years and a new trilogy, the story of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Rey (Daisy Ridley), and the Resistance was brought to an end. While Disney have remained quiet on what is going to happen next in the franchise, they have revealed who will be involved.
It was announced on May 4 of this year that Taika Waititi will be directing an upcoming Star Wars film.
Waititi is not stranger to the franchise, as he directed the series finale of Disney Plus‘ The Mandalorian in 2019.
Although Waititi’s plans have not seen the light of day just yet, one actor from The Rise of Skywalker is already vying for his spot in the franchise.
The ninth film in the franchise saw the arrival of of Beaumont Kin.
Beaumont, played by Lord of the Rings veteran Dominic Monaghan, was a key part of the Resistance.
While he didn’t get an enormous amount of screen time, he was given a detailed backstory which was explored in various books and comics outside of the films.
Beaumont’s story was certainly not finished, and fans of the franchise are keen to see him return to screen – and they aren’t the only ones.
In a chat with Express.co.uk to discuss his film Pet, Monaghan explained that he has not been approached for a return – yet.
Monaghan began: “I’ve not heard anything at all.”
Monaghan went on to tease: “You just never know in these situations. As an actor all you can do is offer your service and hope that someone wants to work with you.
“Outside of that you have to let the filmmakers do what they want to do.”
Later in the chat Monaghan spoke about his 2016 film Pet – a horror in which Monaghan’s character kidnaps and cages a woman.
On the thrilling story, he said: “If I’m walking down the street and people are talking to me about projects that they know of mine, and they ask me about a project they might not know about that’s worth watching, I invariably will mention Pet.”
He explained: “Because it looks like, on the outside, okay – weird boy meets girl, puts her in the cage – that’s the film.
“But it is really not that story! It is a completely different story to that.”
Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker is available on Disney Plus now.
