    What is a Changeling?

Fans of the original Winx Club cartoon have been waiting for many years for a live-action adaptation.

The new series has added a dark twist to the story which saw a friendly group of glittering fairies fight off evil.

While the premise of the new series remains similar, the creators have chosen to add plenty of fight or flight moments.

The main protagonist in the series is Bloom and she is a Fairy of the Dragon Flame.

This means she has the ability to control fire and the strength of her powers comes from channeling her emotions.

Bloom and her friends have just started school at Alfea College – a magical teaching establishment in the Otherworld.

As the fairies get settled in they start to discover the quirks and mysteries within the area.

Bloom is called a “Changeling” in the series and fellow fairy Aisha (Precious Mustapha) explained to her what it meant.

A “Changeling” is a fairy baby switched with a human baby at birth – a theory Bloom strongly denies.

Many people wondered if Bloom was adopted as she did not come from a specific bloodline.

There is an understanding Rosalind took Bloom from Aster Dale and swapped her with a human baby born to a Californian family.

Her followers had then destroyed an entire village in Aster Dale to kill the dreaded Burned Ones.

Rosalind has embedded certain memories in Beatrix so she may not be revealing the whole truth.

Eva Birthistle plays Vanessa, Bloom’s adoptive mother who is covered in burn wounds from when Bloom once lost control of her powers.

Before Bloom started school she was blind to what really happened to her parents.

Fans are eagerly awaiting news of a second season so they can find out if Bloom discovers the truth about her past.

One said on Twitter: “Just finished Fate: The Winx Saga on Netflix and let me tell you I’m hooked!

“Don’t judge it on the TV show and just go watch it and make up your mind then. But it’s really so good.”

Cowen took part in an interview with Glamour Magazine about her iconic character and the intensity of her role.

She said: “I found out [about the role] a week or two before I had to fly out so it was a huge shock. I never had a role this big before.

“I think you just have to kind of roll with the punches when you get there and hope for the best.”
