PS5 update: Download THIS surprise PlayStation bonus today

PlayStation 5 gamers have a new exclusive to check out this week following a big update from Capcom and Sony.

There are only a few exclusives available on the PS5 console right now but another just popped up on the PSN.

This week has seen a surprise new demo released before the full game is launched on a number of platforms.

Plenty of news was shared regarding Resident Evil: Village, including the official May 7, 2021 release date.

And one of the big updates revealed by Capcom today is that an exclusive PS5 demo is now available to download and play.

The new adventure is proving so popular with fans that it caused the PS5 Store to wobble after the demo was announced.

Things are getting back to normal, and gamers can now grab the Resident Evil: Maiden Demo from via the PSN.

According to the official description: “Players will be treated to beautiful visuals with ray-tracing and 3D audio that create an immersive, high-quality survival-horror experience.”

And as noted by Capcom, while this is an official Resident Evil 8 Demo, it doesn’t contain gameplay from the final game.

Instead, this is a tie-in adventure that is focused on visuals, rather than combat on PlayStation 5.

This means you will be controlling a different character who has no prior connection to the Resident Evil franchise.

A message from Resident Evil Village Producer Peter Fabiano explains: “Maiden is not the name of any person, but instead it symbolizes the protagonist, a girl who’s trapped in Dimitrescu Castle.

“Rather than playing as Ethan and seeing a part of his story, the character in this demo is separate from the main story of Resident Evil Village. Both the maiden’s story and Ethan’s story take place at different times.

“The Maiden demo doesn’t take place during the main story of Resident Evil Village. Maiden was originally designed as a visual demo that would allow you to explore the inside of Dimitrescu Castle, but it evolved to include a short story and puzzle solving.”

“Long-time fans of Resident Evil are familiar with various castles that have appeared throughout the series, so they should feel right at home in this one, too. With RE Village and Maiden taking place in the same place but not the same time, it left us wondering if the two would be tied together somehow.

Describing what the new demo plays like, a message from Capcom adds: “Finally, we asked about the Maiden demo being on PlayStation 5, and how the team took advantage of the technology that the PS5 offers.

“You’ll be able to enjoy the ray tracing and 3D Audio that PS5 offers. The demo is designed to take full advantage of tech that will also be included in RE Village, so Maiden also functions as a sneak peek at the next-gen leap for survival horror.

“Of course, we also had to press Peter a bit about his comments during the RE Showcase about how art design and technology come together to create such a hauntingly beautiful and detailed environment.”

According to Capcom, Resident Evil Village will launch on PS4 and Xbox One on the same day as the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. Anybody with a PS4 and Xbox One version will get a free upgrade to next-gen.

The game has a May 7 release date and is available to pre-order today.

Capcom has confirmed that the game will once again feature first-person gameplay, only this time with crafting options.
