Fleetwood Mac meme: Why are people skateboarding to Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams?

Fleetwood Mac has made a huge amount of music in its time, with many songs becoming stone-cold classics. One such is Dreams, sung by the incomparable Stevie Nicks. Now, however, that song has taken on a whole new meaning and is becoming well-loved by a younger generation – so what is behind its new lease of life?

Fleetwood Mac’s song Dreams has always been a classic, but now it is taking on a new meaning.

The current UK chart has Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams at 85, above Billie Eilish’s new single My Future.

According to Billboard, between September 25 and 27, Dreams tripled its sales and racked up 2.9 million on-demand streams in the USA and 3,000 in digital download sales, meaning the numbers went up by 88.7 percent and 374 percent respectively.

But what has sparked this viral-level uptick in sales for the song?

It turns out a TikTok star has done what many dream of doing – made himself a viral video.

TikTok user @420doggface208, whose real name is Nathan Apodaca, filmed himself on his journey to Idaho Falls.

This journey may have seemed normal to him as he hopped on his skateboard and headed down the road.

However, he decided to film the journey, which saw him holding his camera above his face as he skated, drank cranberry and raspberry juice and sang along to his favourite song.

The song was Dreams by Fleetwood Mac, and mid-way through his journey, Nathan started mouthing the words with all the feeling of Stevie Nicks herself.

This set off a TikTok challenge, which saw many others using the same song as an accompaniment for their journeys.

People were seen drinking beer, soda and the famous cranberry and raspberry juice as they skated, mouthing to Stevie’s dulcet tones as they did so.

Some videos went even further to utilise the song, such as one where three cowboys thrust their hips along with the music, set against the sounds of Fleetwood Mac.

But they are not alone as they stand off against three other cowboys, in a video from actor and TikTok user Matt Cutshall, or @mattjcutshallv as he is known on the platform.

However, not to be outdone, one very famous person decided they wanted in on the new Dreams Challenge – Mick Fleetwood himself.

The band’s famous drummer and its namesake got himself a TikTok profile and started on his journey, mouthing along to his bandmate while drinking the now-iconic cranberry juice.

According to The Guardian, Nathan has received more than $10,000 (£7,729) in donations from fans and plans on surprising his mother by giving her half the money.

He also intends to upgrade his RV and buy a car, saying: “All I need is a place of my own where I can cook and clean. Shower and s**t.”
