“I totally understand how people desperately want to have to some certainly for summer. Unfortunately I can’t give you that certainty at the moment,” he continued.
“I know people want to get away to see family members that perhaps live overseas, relax or indeed do business, all these things are important.
“At the moment we can’t give that certainty. I am an optimist but I’m also a realist and we’ve got to be driven by the science.”
He added: “The UK government guidelines remember, as it stands at the moment, is to not travel and if that is going to be reviewed the UK government will make announcement in due course.”
