GTA 6 release date latest as Take-Two provide update for Grand Theft Auto Online fans

It’s been a busy week for gaming news, and unfortunately for us, the GTA 6 release date is not part of it.

With the new next-gen consoles launching in the United States, all eyes our on the big studios and how they plan to support them.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X provide a serious upgrade over the current-gen consoles and that means big new projects can be announced.

For now, it appears that the GTA 6 release date will not be revealed until 2021, at the earliest.

This will be when the PS5 and Xbox Series X have been established in the market and will have also built up a player base.

In the meantime, Rockstar Games has plans to launch the biggest ever update for Online.

This remains under wraps but looks to be the studio’s next major project, bar any surprise announcements in the coming weeks.

Updates regarding this exciting new content have not been released in recent weeks, leaving gamers wondering when the online DLC might arrive.

The original announcement suggested that the new GTA Online would be available to download and play in 2020.

The original message reads: “Later this year players can expect more big updates for both games, including some exciting new extensions and augmentations to an existing role in Red Dead Online, and the biggest ever update for GTA Online, featuring our latest take on Heists in an entirely new location.”

However, during a recent earnings call with Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, the same timing was not used.

Companies use their own fiscal years when it comes to discussing upcoming launches, and references were made to the big Grand Theft Auto Online update.

A reference to this can be found here, which reads: “Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO) today reported strong results for its fiscal second-quarter 2021 ended September 30, 2020.

“In addition, the Company provided its initial outlook for its fiscal third quarter ending December 31, 2020 and increased its outlook for the fiscal year 2021, ending March 31, 2021. For additional information, please see the fiscal second quarter 2021 results slide deck posted to the Company’s investor relations website.”

With that reference in mind, the latest news shared by Take-Two regarding Grand Theft Auto Online’s next big update is coming “this fiscal year”.

This leaves the door open for the expansion to be delayed into earlier 2021, although there is no guarantee that this is the current plan.

An announcement regarding the GTA 5 Online update could be made at any time, but the quote from Take-Two Interactive below, is the latest information on the situation:

“Both Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online will receive major updates later this fiscal year, featuring an extension to existing Frontier Pursuits for Red Dead Online, as well as Grand Theft Auto Online’s biggest update ever, featuring a new take on Heists in a new location.”

With Rockstar Games billing this as the game’s biggest ever free expansion, it seems likely that a major map expansion is in the works.

It’s unclear right now if this mean part of the current map is being changed, or if a whole new location is being created for the new Heist.
