Call of Duty Modern Warfare update: COD Warzone patch news for PS4 and Xbox

With the announcement of Black Ops Cold War, the launch of a new live event and the start of Summer of Games, it could be easy enough for Activision to skip a Modern Warfare update this week. But with a few things coming to an end this week, it seems as good a time as any to launch the latest COD Warzone patch. News of what is being planned for this week is expected to arrive later today, August 31, followed by the new Call of Duty update going live on Tuesday, or Wednesday, September 1-2.

Timing can be up in the air, but an evening release in the UK could be likely, depending on how big an update is being planned.

We know that the Free Access Gunfight Tournament is coming to an end in Warzone on September 2, leaving Activision a window to launch a new playlist update.

But with so much going on in-game, it will be interesting to see what exactly is being planned for this week.

Activision has been hinting at further changes being made to the Warzone map, although it’s unclear when this might happen.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted a new Easter egg during the Call of Duty League celebrations, after Dallas Empire clinched the CDL Champs Event.

More reveals connected to Black Ops are expected to drop this week, although they are unlikely to be match what is being planned for September 9.

This month will see the official multiplayer reveal for Black Ops Cold War, which is expected to include plenty of info for Warzone gamers.

Both games will share a Battle Pass following Cold War’s launch on November 13, and this should provide plenty of cross-support between all titles.

“Available now, the free-to-play blockbuster battle royale experience, Warzone will share content with Black Ops Cold War,” a message from Activision confirms.

“Black Ops Cold War includes shared progression features with Warzone, adding inventory items that can be used in both titles. Plus, Warzone players will still have access to Modern Warfare content they earned previously, like Operators and weapon blueprints. More information on Black Ops Cold War and Warzone will be announced at a later date.

“Battle Pass system to unlock post-launch content with unified progression across both Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone. Unlock items like base weapons, customization items and more simply by playing the game.”
