Fortnite update today: Patch Notes latest as new Season 4 Battle Pass fix arrives

Epic Games has announced the release of a new update today, September 1, 2020.

But unlike the massive Season 4 content patch that went live last week, this week’s changes are much more limited.

With a range of new themes, map changes and skins unlocked, there’s always a good chance of problems popping up.

And today’s Fortnite update is focused on removing one of the most concerning for those who have received a Season 4 Battle Pass.

As noted on the official Trello bugs board, some Fortnite gamers have been struggling to complete purchases for the new Battle Pass.

Epic Games haven’t explained what might have happened, or what caused this issue last week.

However, they have now announced that the new Fortnite update out today across PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch, should remove it.

No real patch notes have been shared but an announcement of intent has been made and includes the following information:

“Hi, all. We’ve released a maintenance patch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Android to address stability and reports from players experiencing issues purchasing/gifting the Battle Pass – The Fortnite Team.”

The Trello board lists these other bugs as having been fixed, however, it’s unclear if this was part of today’s update, or an earlier one.

FORTNITE FIXES:

  • Supply Drops may sometimes not disappear off the map after being opened, persisting on the map and mini-map.
  • Issues purchasing/gifting the Chapter 2 – Season 4 Battle Pass.
  • Crashing on PlayStation 4 for players with non-English language system settings.

In other news, NVIDIA and Epic Games today announced that Fortnite is adding real-time ray tracing, AI-powered NVIDIA DLSS, to the game running the correct hardware.

The game was featured today as part of a GeForce special event where NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang unveiled the new GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs.

“Epic Games is turning Fortnite, which is already a pop culture sensation, into a showcase for how competitive gaming will improve with technology,” said Matt Wuebbling, vice president of Global GeForce Marketing at NVIDIA.

“Fortnite players are about to experience the stunning visuals of next-level ray tracing, AI-accelerated frame rates powered by NVIDIA DLSS, and our new low-latency esports technology suite, NVIDIA Reflex.”

“The GeForce RTX 30 Series is a testament to NVIDIA’s dedication to ray tracing and artificial intelligence,” said Marcus Wassmer, engineering director of Graphics at Epic Games.

“Second-generation ray tracing, innovative use of AI with DLSS, and a large raw performance boost make the GeForce RTX 30 Series a truly impressive powerhouse for graphics technology in gaming.”

Fortnite will add four ray-traced features, which are expected to arrive during Chapter 2 Season 4 and include the following:

  • Ray-traced reflections – Recreates the way light reflects on glossy and metal surfaces, including smooth natural mirrors like window glass and rougher surfaces like brushed metal.
  • Ray-traced shadows – Accurately models shadowing on many surfaces while enhancing surface and contact detail, and fixes problems associated with traditional shadow techniques.
  • Ray-traced global illumination – Calculates world lighting with massively increased precision, illuminating Fortnite’s environments, players and characters with unprecedented detail, fidelity and clarity.
  • Ray-traced ambient occlusion – Where objects or surfaces meet, light is occluded, creating subtle shadows that can highlight the slightest of surface details.
