If you own a Fire TV Stick from Amazon then there’s good news. The online retail giant has just announced that it is pushing out a major upgrade to these popular streaming devices which helps improve things via an intuitive, simple, and more customised experience. Amazon first announced these changes back in September at its yearly devices event but now it seems it is ready to unleash the upgrade on those dongles plugged into TVs across the world.
The rollout is happening gradually so don’t expect to see the changes straight away and Amazon says it is starting the upgrade with its more recent Fire TV Sticks getting the new features first.
If you are one of the lucky ones getting the update this week, once downloaded you’ll find some useful additions including the Main Menu now being placed at the centre of your screen to makes it easy to find what you’re looking for.
You can also now jump straight into your favourite streaming service directly, or scroll over supported apps to quickly peek at what’s inside and begin playback.
For those wanting to search for something to watch then Amazon has introduced an all-new Find experience.
This, they say, makes it much easier to discover movies, TV shows, and more. You can even browse genres such as comedies and action or categories like Kids and Family or apps.
Of course, this is an Amazon device and no update would be complete without some Alexa news.
Tucked inside the Fire TV Stick update are improved voice controls that give you greater control of your entertainment.
For example, you can now simply say “Alexa, go to Library” to browse shows. With user profiles, Fire TV now delivers a personalised experience for up to six members of a household, providing individual content recommendations, viewing history, watch lists, preferred settings, and more.
Changing user profiles is simple by saying “Alexa, switch to my profile.” After initial set up, Alexa will even automatically recognise the voice and switch to your profile.
There’s no word on when each Fire TV stick will be getting these changes but the rollout has officially begun so expect to see things arriving on your telly soon.
