This week Samsung held its February Unpacked event, where its latest flagships – the Galaxy S22 – were unveiled. But besides this major smartphone news, the South Korean tech giant also revealed a truckload of things for Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 owners to smile about. The Seoul-based firm announced a huge new update – which is rolling out right now – that brings with it enhanced health features, new watch faces, as well as revealing wearables from the Galaxy Watch 4 onwards will get four years worth of software support.

The South Korean tech giant explained: “Samsung Electronics today extended its commitment to delivering the most up-to-date and more secure mobile experience possible for users by offering up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades on select Galaxy devices.

“This improved standard builds upon Samsung’s previous promise to provide up to three generations of upgrades and ensures millions of Galaxy users have access to the latest features for security, productivity, better usability and more, for as long as they own their device. Available on select Galaxy S series, Z series and A series smartphones, as well as tablets, Samsung is planning to scale this effort across its various product ranges within the Galaxy ecosystem and works closely with partners to deliver Android OS upgrades through Samsung One UI. Samsung also provides up to four years of upgrades to One UI Watch and Wear OS Powered by Samsung, ensuring that users can enjoy the latest Galaxy Watch experiences.”

This record amount of support for the Samsung Galaxy Watch line means owners will be able to enjoy receiving new features and security updates for longer than ever before – making the wearable even better value for money.

And if upcoming updates are as jam-packed as the one Samsung has just unveiled, then Galaxy Watch 4 owners are in for a treat.

One of the headline features of the latest Galaxy Watch update – which is rolling out to devices right now – is the new enhancements for fitness fanatics.

The new update adds an interval target feature so that cyclists and runners can specify the duration, distance and number of sets they want to perform during a workout. Galaxy Watch 4 devices will also now be capable of guiding users through custom training sessions, with owners able to opt for a high-intensity workout or a low-stress one.

Elsewhere, the latest Galaxy Watch update also brings with it a new sleep coaching feature – which has a cute way of tracking how well you rest each night. The newly available programme will track how well you sleep for seven nights and then assign you an icon, based on a different animal that shows your sleeping style.

Among the ‘sleep symbol animals’ that are available are the nervous penguin, the sensitive hedgehog, the sun averse mole and the easygoing walrus.

The latest Samsung Galaxy Watch update also brings with it new body composition insights which are powered by Chris Hemsworth’s Centr app.

This fitness programme is created by the Thor star, and Galaxy Watch 4 users will get a 30 day free trial for it – after which they’ll have to pay for it.

The newly launched update will also add some cosmetic features, with users able to customise watch faces with new colours and digital clocks.

Samsung began the rollout for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic on February 10, and users can download the update via the Galaxy Wearable app.
